COUNSELLING

COUNSELLING & GUIDANCE SERVICES

Primary and Middle School (MEB PDR Aligned)

At BIS, we prioritise the wellbeing, social and emotional development of every student. Our Guidance and Psychological Counselling Department (PDR) provides continuous support throughout Primary and Middle School, with practices rooted in the official MEB PDR curriculum and adapted to the developmental needs of each age group.

Primary School (Ages 6–9)

The transition to Primary School marks a child’s first major step toward independence. During this period, our counselling team helps students develop the emotional resilience, self-confidence, and social skills necessary to navigate school life with confidence and joy.

Middle School (Ages 10–13)

Middle school is a key stage in a child’s personal development, where individualisation, identity, and emotional maturity begin to take shape. Our guidance team provides targeted support to help students manage change, build character, and enhance communication, decision-making, and self-awareness skills.

Our Core Practices Across Both Levels

  • Orientation and Transition Support: At the start of each academic year, we organise orientation sessions for students and parents to ease the adaptation process.

  • Preventive Guidance: Based on regular observations, we coordinate meetings with teachers, students, and parents to provide timely support and preventive solutions.

  • Developmental Guidance: We help students:

    • Strengthen their self-esteem

    • Build effective communication skills

    • Develop problem-solving and emotional regulation techniques

  • Inclusive Approach: We adopt a student-centred and inclusive model that respects individual differences and the unique pace of each child's development.

Ongoing Support & Communication

  • Monthly Planning: We meet regularly with class and subject teachers to monitor the academic, social, and emotional progress of each student.

  • Parent Seminars: We host monthly parent seminars focusing on age-specific topics in child development.

  • Guidance Bulletins: We publish and distribute monthly guidance bulletins to inform families of the work being done and provide practical parenting tips.

  • Newsletter Contributions: Our department’s activities and highlights are featured monthly in the school’s official newsletter.

Admissions & New Students

During the school’s registration and admissions process, the counselling department meets with prospective students and families. As an official member of the student placement committee, the department plays a key role in evaluating the social-emotional readiness of incoming students.

At BIS, our guidance services are designed to support the full development of the child in harmony with the Turkish National Education System. We work hand-in-hand with families and educators to create a safe, respectful, and encouraging environment for every student.
